How does a Hindu Baby get a name? How does the ceremony work?

My Hindu friend just gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I asked her sister how the baby gets ‘babtised’? She said the priest looks at the alphabet. Ok so what does that mean and what are all the other procedures and prayers? Also my friend to me Hindu children have secret names. raasi name? I think that what she called it. Please explain in detail.

Its not really a ceromony.
When a hindu child is born, the parents take the child to the hindu priest ( pundit ) and he will look at the date & time the child is born and go through the hindu astrological chart prevailing for the child and so the raasi name comes up. The raasi name is only for use when the child is doing prayers cermony if they have to go through bad times, hence it is kinda secret.
Some hindu actually carry their raasi names as part of their normal names.
